Kaitlan Bui, from Orange County, California, graduated from Brown University in 2022 with honors in English Literature and East Asian Studies. Her senior thesis synthesized community oral histories, poetry, and diasporic Vietnamese mixed-media to generate a literary re-imagining of Sài Gòn’s fall in 1975 and the “boat people.” Her work was recognized by multiple undergraduate honors and fellowships, including the Presidential Scholars Program, the Royce Fellowship, the Cogut Institute Fellowship, and Phi Beta Kappa. Prior to coming to the United Kingdom, Kaitlan taught at Cao Đẳng Sư Phạm Bà Rịa Vũng Tàu under a Fulbright Scholarship. As a Marshall Scholar, she is pursuing a Master’s degree in Migration and Diaspora Studies and Intensive Language (South East Asian Language – Vietnamese) at SOAS, University of London.
